Lab Protocol

ESS 8 Labs will generally have two parts: Part I will be exercises which are designed to be done during the lab period. Part II involves some thinking about what you have learned and will often include a very short writing assignment to be done at home. The complete lab (Part I & II) will be due at the beginning of the lab period following when it was assigned.

Lab attendance is MANDATORY, and comprises 30% of your grade! Lab work can only be handed in if the lab was attended, unless prior arrangements are made. If you have to miss a lab you must notify me in advance, and arrange a makeup time. Labs can only be made up during the week of the lab assignment to receive credit.

Due to the limited number of computers, you must attend the lab section you are enrolled in. You may switch labs if you find someone to switch with, but both of you must see me.

I will hand out lab exercises at the beginning of the period, and most of the lab work will be done on the computer (although we will have a couple of labs that involve hands-on demonstrations). Because there are a limited number of computers, you will need to partner up. You are encouraged to work together, and please feel free to ask questions.

Note: Each lab is worth the same percentage of your grade.

Have fun and enjoy the course.
If you ever need help feel free to contact me or come to office hours.
Good luck!
