 Research in Astrobiology

Astrobiology research at UCLA focuses on six main themes:
- Extrasolar planetary systems

- Geobiology and geochemistry of early Earth and Mars

- Evolution of Earth's early life

- Genomic evolution and the tree of life

- Celestial influences on planetary environments

- Exploration for life in the solar system
The Center for the Study of Evolution and the Origin of Life (CSEOL), with its weekly meetings, annual symposia, and publications and the NASA Center for Astrobiology provide focal points for UCLA paleontologists. These activities continue to unite a wide range of people across campus and from other institutions who are interested in evolution, broadly defined, and the history of life here and elsewhere.
